OVERVIEW: This is a themed shooting match testing speed as well as accuracy. The goal is to clear each stage of Armor, High Value, and Insurgent targets in the fastest time while avoiding penalties which add additional time to your score (i.e. “time plus” scoring). Bonus target(s) will be available on every stage to allow you to deduct time from your raw stage time, presuming said bonus are successfully engaged.
Devil Dog Heroes over Terror matches include five different target types with said scoring policy as follows:
Armor: An “Armor” target is a steel target. It must be shot and fall to score. Failure to fall is a 5 second penalty. Expect lots of steel on any given stage.
High Value Threat: An “HVT” is a cardboard USPSA target. To score, it must be shot two to the body and one to the head. The “body” is defined as the “C” zone or better. At least one BUT no more than two HVT’s will be included on any stage. A Failure to Neutralize a High Value Threat is a 15 second penalty.
Insurgent: A “Insurgent” is a cardboard USPSA target, partially painted black (black indicates hardcover and is impenetrable). “Insurgents” require two shots on paper (which must be between the perforations) to score. A Failure to Neutralize an “Insurgent” is a 5 second penalty.
Bonus: A “Bonus” is indicated by BLUE. Any of the three above mentioned targets can be designated as “Bonus” targets by the clearly distinguishable blue paint on said target (blue head on HVT’s and Insurgents, entire steel painted blue on Armor). The value of a “Bonus” is equal to the target’s value: Armor = 5 seconds, HVT = 15 seconds, Insurgent = 5 seconds. Expect to see bonus opportunities on EVERY STAGE, some of which will be easy, others hard.
Collateral Damage: Now it’s time to think and slow down, because you don’t want to shoot these. “Collateral Damage” is a “no shoot” target and is represented as a white cardboard USPSA no shoot on HVT’s and Insurgent targets. However, on Armor targets, the “no shoot” is painted red while the steel is white. Each shot on Collateral Damage is a 10 second penalty.
PREREQUISITE: This is a new shooter friendly event and we highly encourage our members that have never shot a match before to start here. We will work with you! If you have never shot a match before, please inform one of our organizers before you shoot this match. We ask this because we like to balance our squads to help the match move faster.
GEAR REQUIRED: This is a six stage match requiring 150-200 rounds. In addition to ammunition, you’ll need a handgun (9mm minimum caliber) and at least three magazines (no stage will exceed 32 rounds). NO UNSAFE HOLSTERS WILL BE PERMITTED INCLUDING SHOULDER AND SMALL OF THE BACK HOLSTERS. SERPA, OR ANY OTHER RETENTION HOLSTER THAT DEACTIVATES THE LOCK WITH THE TRIGGER FINGER ARE NOT ALLOWED. If you don’t have a holster, please bring your pistol in a gun bag and you will shoot from the low ready. Ear and eye protection mandatory even if you are just observing. Wear appropriate attire, including covered shoes and no loose fitting clothing that could allow an ejected round to lodge between the skin and clothing. Water and snacks for refreshment are recommended, but can often be acquired onsite for nominal consideration.
When not shooting, keep unloaded firearm in holster at all times. This is a Cold Range. Only touch firearm when you are in the shooting box and instructed to “Make Ready”.
PRICING and REGISTRATION: Bring $20 in cash, as payment is made upon arrival (no credit cards accepted). In addition to your RSVP here at SFE Shooters, to ensure your spot, please RSVP at the PractiScore link that will be posted in the “Comments” section below about a week prior to the match. We will attempt to squad everyone together. Upon check in and payment of the match fee, you will receive a raffle ticket for a random drawing which will be held in June and December. The June raffle will be a $300 gift certificate to Patriot Shooting. The more Devil Dog Heroes matches you shoot, the more times you are entered to win.
IF YOU RSVP FOR A SFE SHOOTERS EVENT THAT REQUIRES PAYMENT AND YOU DON’T SHOW UP OR FAIL TO CANCEL YOUR RSVP IN ADVANCE, YOU ARE LEAVING A SPOT UNFILLED AS WAITLIST MEMBERS WILL NOT BE OFFERED THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND. FURTHERMORE, IF YOU CANCEL AT THE LAST MINUTE (which we understand does occasionally happen), WE MAY AGAIN BE LEFT WITH UNFILLED SPOTS OR WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY FOR RANGE TIME THAT GOES UNUSED. IF YOU REGISTER ON PRACTISCORE AND CANNOT ATTEND PLEASE ADVISE AN ORGANIZER BEFORE THE EVENT.
OTHER INFORMATION: Devil Dog Heroes typical ends around 4:30 (so paste targets quickly between rounds and be ready for the next course of fire by having loaded magazines ready). Optional group early dinner follows (pay own way).
